About Fan Chih Wei

At 30 years old, Fan Chih Wei is one of Taiwan's most intriguing poker talents. His journey to the felt has been anything but ordinary. Chih Wei first entered the competitive world as an e-sports player at age 17, before discovering poker at age 22 through home games. By 23, he made the leap towards poker as a full-time pursuit — only to suffer a bankruptcy early on due to bankroll mismanagement. That experience seeded the name of his coaching brand, 'OverBankroll', a constant reminder of humility and growth.

After that setback, Chih Wei returned to e-sports, taking on a co-coach role with the FPX team in Shanghai. By age 25, he realized he would not reach the top in that path, so he moved back to Taiwan and recommitted himself to poker.

On the live circuit, Chih Wei has already made waves. In May 2023, during the APT Taipei Main Event (1st New Era in Taipei), he made headlines by 6-bet bluffing A5o at the final table with seven players remaining — a brave move from second chip leader up against the chip leader. The gamble ended in a clash against AA held by Punnat, and Chih Wei finished 7th — but the hand became the stuff of legend in local poker circles, often called the "ChihWei A5o" bluff.

His poker résumé also includes winning the 2024 APT Taipei Superstar Challenge, taking home TWD 8,590,525 (US$ 272,084) — his largest live score to date. His total recorded live earnings as of now is $1,422,849.
