Julian Warhurst Wins APT Da Nang Super High Roller

After an anxious wait to finish off the heads-up match, Australia’s Julian Warhurst beat Satanan Jungrungreangkit to take down the APT Da Nang Super High Roller event for over $42,430.  He bested a field of 22 entries made up of 14 unique players to take home the cash, along with the fabulous pewter lion trophy.

Final Day Of Play

After just over one level of heads-up play, Julian and Satanan were forced to come back for the second day of play, with Satanan holding a slight chip lead over Julian going into Day 2. With the blinds at 25,000/50,000 going into the second day, Satanan sat on just over 2.8 million, whereas Julian was just shy of 2.7 million - about as close as you could be without being exactly even!

However, it didn’t take long for Julian to take the lead, as an early triple-barrel got Satanan to fold on the river, putting Julian at 3.3 million chips. More aggression would see Julian take down another pot, as this time he fired on the river after facing a flop check-raise and a turn bet from his Thai opponent on a board of A66, 7, 3. Again, Satanan found a fold, so we don’t get to see what either player had.

After losing that hand, Satanan came back at Julian and managed to claw himself back into the chip lead. However, things would soon turn sour for the Thai player, as a bluff gone wrong saw him knocked down to just 150,000 chips. Satanan raised to 150K on the button with blinds at 30K/60K, and Julian defended. The flop came AA9, Satanan made a c-bet of 125K, before facing a check-raise to 310K.

Satanan wasn’t going to be pushed around, and he fired back with a 3-bet to 800K. After using a time bank chip, Julian called, and the two would see a turn. The J hit the turn, and after using two time bank chips, Satanan shoved for 1.8 million, slightly covering Julian’s stack. After quickly double-checking his cards, Julian made the call with A6, while Satanan showed KQ for the bluff. The 7 hit the river, knocking down Satanan to his last few chips.

It was no surprise that soon after this hand, Julian had sealed his victory; his J7 beating Satanan’s T2 to take home his first APT title and over $42,000 in prize money.
